Mary Ann, Piano
Mrs. Mary Ann is from “Back East” where she began playing the piano as a toddler, copying her sister and learning from her Mom, as her mother, grandmother, and grandfather were all educators. At the age of 12 she began by teaching a 5 year old neighbor! Her philosophy is for learning to be “Joyful Work and Serious Fun” and her students have ranged from 3 to 93, individuals and families. She enjoys creating learning in all styles – for pleasure at home or winning Competitions – Two Black Keys to Bach to Ragtime … and Beyond… She earned her Bachelor of Music at The Juilliard School, then became a Teaching Assistant at SUNY Stonybrook, graduating with a Master of Music in Piano Performance. Mrs. Mary Ann has been honored to be invited to adjudicate for The Piano Guild, MTNA Special Scholarship events and the Arizona Study Program. She is a member of The Piano Guild, MTNA (Past President, and other offices in a local NC chapter), American College of Musicians, and Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity. “Mrs. Mary Ann has the ability to develop a confident and skilled musician by leveraging the unique talents of an individual in a very fun and approachable manner “ ~ Juliana, one of my first students, who has known and seen my students from the beginning of my teaching career.
