Why is Allegro a year-round music school?
We offer music lessons year-round because it’s detrimental to a musician’s progress to take extended(more than two week) breaks from music lessons. Music is a “use it or lose it” skill! It’s important for students to take summer music lessons, or they will quickly lose the skills they have worked so hard to acquire.
Is taking a break for the summer a good idea for music students?
Absolutely not. Taking a break for more than two weeks almost always results in backsliding. Instead of coming back recharged, students often return to lessons frustrated because they’ve forgotten much of what they had learned. It’s not uncommon for teachers to have to take a student back to the beginning after an extended break from lessons. It simply doesn’t make sense to invest thousands of dollars in instruments and lessons during the school year, only to regress because an absence from summer music lessons.
I’ll be out of town for a few weeks this summer and want to keep learning. What do I do?
You attend as many of your regularly scheduled lessons as you are able, and schedule make-up classes for the lessons you will miss.
How do I sign up for make-ups for the lessons I’ll miss this summer?
Contact the office. You can start making up lessons NOW for the summer. We are very flexible and allow students to attend make-ups from April-October for lessons they will miss in the summer.
Can I give or “sub-lease” the lessons I’ll miss this summer to a friend?
Yes. Just let us know your friend’s name, and which lessons they will attend (Your friend will reimburse you directly if you are sub-leasing your lessons).
Are make-up classes as good as private lessons? Yes.
Make-up classes give our students the opportunity to spend an entire hour with one of our instructors. Often, the instructor will focus on a skill that you may not have learned in your weekly lessons. It’s also a great chance to meet and learn from other music students. Our instructors always look forward to teaching students in make-up classes. They make the classes fun and challenging.
Can I withdraw from lessons for the summer and still keep my day, time and teacher?
No. Many of the very best music teachers and musicians in Tucson teach at Allegro. We make sure they have a steady income by doing everything we can to keep their student rosters full of music students. When a student withdraws from lessons, we immediately open that spot up to new students. Many of our teachers have waiting lists. Last June, we enrolled over 60 new students. If you withdraw for the summer, you will most likely not be able to return to the same teacher, day and time. We will do our best to accommodate your requests when you return, but we cannot guarantee your spot. Please understand that we appreciate your business and love having you as a student, however we have to accommodate a huge influx of new students and keep our teachers’ schedules full each summer. If you are happy with your current schedule, PLEASE STAY ENROLLED and take advantage of our make-up classes and sub-lease policy!
The Summer months are a great time to learn another instrument, or add more lessons to your schedule! Please let us know if you have any other questions about Summer Music Lessons.
