Jazz Dance Classes

Jazz is an exciting, fast-paced style of dance that is very entertaining to watch and perform.

From music videos to Broadway shows, jazz dance is extremely popular and one of the most well known styles of dance. Jazz is now most commonly performed to pop and R&B music, making for big, exciting routines with explosive movements and lots of room for personality to shine through.

Jazz integrates the more energetic elements of hip hop with the more technical aspects of ballet, allowing dancers to receive a very fun, top-quality dance education. Our jazz classes encourage dancers to excel in their performance, teaching movements featuring impressive strength and flexibility, high leaps, quick turns, and exciting tricks.  

Contemporary Dance Classes

Contemporary is a beautiful, abstract form of dance that has a strong focus on creativity and artistry. Contemporary classes are 1 hour, once a week. 

Contemporary dance combines the elements of ballet, modern, jazz, and lyrical dance to create something new and unique. Dancers experiment with different textures of movement, combining traditional and non-traditional dance techniques to grow as dancers and allow their artistry and creativity to shine. 

Dancers will utilize all levels of movement throughout this class, performing on the ground when learning floorwork, standing when mastering kicks and turns, or even in the air when exploring leaps and tricks. Dancers will learn the fundamentals of contemporary technique while enhancing their movement qualities and exploring their artistry through performance and improvisational exercises. 

Jazz Dance Classes for Kids

We offer Jazz Dance Classes and Contemporary Dance Classe for students as young as age 6.

Our Jazz and Contemporary Classes are low pressure, fine, and you will learn the proper techniques in positive and supportive environment.

Jazz Dance Classes for Beginners

We are happy to teach beginners as well as those who have prior experience. Our teachers specialize in teaching young and beginning students!

Jazz Dance Classes for Adults

We also offer Jazz and Contemporary dance classes for adults. Beginner through advanced are welcome. Advanced classes will be listed as intermediate/advanced on the schedule.

Recitals every year

We are the only music and dance school in Tucson that offers a recital each year with a grand Steinway piano in a first class, professional recital hall.  Every December, our students have the option of performing in our recitals. Allegro School of Music recitals are absolutely free to all eligible students and their families. Our recitals are held at the University of Arizona and Catalina Foothills High School’s beautiful concert halls.

Our School is stocked with everything you need for music lessons and dance classes, including guitar amps, stereos, drum sets, electric drums, mirrors, keyboards, pianos and more. All you need to bring is your instrument. We have invested thousands of dollars on our school to offer soundproofing and observation windows.

Professional Level Floating Dance Floor

All of our dance classes in Tucson feature a professional level floor. Dance is a very physical activity that requires a lot of jumping. This can put stress on bones and joints. Most dance footwear does not provide any cushioning or support, so the shock of dance movement can place a lot of pressure on the knees and back of a dancer. The best way to prevent against potential injury is by choosing a studio with a professional “floating floor”. A floating floor is a dance floor that rests on a system of high-density foam, to absorb the shock of jumping. A high-density foam base is superior to a “sprung” floor, which usually consists of a wood structure built on the regular floor.

The top layer of the dance floor is also an important factor. A vinyl composite “marley” floor is accepted worldwide as the best surface layer for recreational to professional dance. Facilities such as the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, the Royal Academy of Dance in London, England, and Riverdance – The Touring Show, all use marley floors as their dance surface. A marley floor allows dancers to slide, with a degree of “controlled slip”, but is not slippery so there is less risk of slips and falls. Very few studios use professional marley floors because of the expense involved, and usually opt for a regular floor tile for a studio floor.

All of our studio locations have floating floors that have over 700 high density foam blocks under the floor surface and a marley top surface that is imported from England. Our special floors help reduce the risk of injuries and allow students to dance longer without getting tired.

Small Dance Class Size

If the dance class has fewer students in it each child will receive more personalized attention, learn more and have more fun. With younger students smaller classes make it easier for a teacher to maintain control over the class and make sure each student understands the concepts and instructions. Our smaller class sizes make sure that no fundamental concepts are being missed. A smaller class size also allows our teachers to ensure that students are not developing bad habits or improper technique.

Our studio limits all of our classes (ages 6 and up) to a maximum of just 10 students per class. With our preschool dance classes (ages 3 – 5) we limit the size of the classes to a maximum of just 8 students per class.

School Picture Day

We are the only music and dance school in Tucson that offers a picture day for their students. Every Year in the fall we host a school picture day. This is a service that our student’s parents love as they all want quality photos of their children. Adults are welcome too! Students can bring their instruments to the photo shoot and wear whatever they like.

Friendly office staff to assist you.  Seven days a week

We are the only music and dance school in Tucson that offers full time professional customer service for their students seven days a week.  Many music and dance schools are staffed by the teacher/owner or more commonly, voicemail. We have office managers who are available at the front desk to assist our clients.

Comfortable lounges for parents and students

We have spacious and parent friendly waiting areas in both schools. Instead of waiting in a retail store showroom, our clients enjoy a professional waiting area with comfortable chairs, kids toys, free Wi-Fi, magazines, etc.  We also provide large observation windows on every door so that you can watch your child’s music lessons. If you prefer, you can sit in on their music lessons anytime you like.

Month to month tuition

Our music and dance school does not require semester minimums or yearly membership fees. Our students are here on a month to month basis. We want you at our school because you like your music lessons and dance classes, not because you’ve signed a contract!
