Harumi, Piano
Harumi joined the Allegro School of Music faculty team in 2014. She loves to share her musical experience with students of all ages, in areas of their own interest, and in any genre, including classical, jazz, pop, theater music and anime or game music. She finds joy in helping students progress through technique and knowledge at each level of their musical journey. She loves guiding them to the discovery of beauty and excitement in making music. Harumi is a University of Arizona graduate with over ten years’ experience as an instructor and accompanist. Harumi started taking piano lessons at age six in Japan. Back then, her favorite thing to do (besides running around outside) was choosing and listening to classical music from the collection on the shelf. At the University of Arizona, she discovered a passion for playing piano for dance. She studied dance accompaniment and improvisation. Playing for ballet and modern dance, she learned to be creative, responding immediately to any movements, and drawing from various styles of music, keys and even sound beyond tonality. Harumi served as pianist for the University of Arizona Dance Department for eight years. Harumi has accompanied several musical theater productions in Tucson; including Act 1 Academy of Performing Arts, where she enjoyed playing for children’s musicals as well as accompanying voice lessons, camp and workshops.
