Mary Ellen Labrecque came to Tucson, AZ 25 years ago. She was raised in Lake Geneva, WI and completed her college studies at Rockford University in IL. When Mary Ellen was to begin 5th grade, her family moved to a new school district in Wisconsin where all incoming students were tested for musical aptitude (at that time). It became evident that Mary Ellen would be a good candidate for music instruction and started taking private violin lessons starting in 5th grade. Early in her freshman year of high school, the music director encouraged Mary Ellen’s parents to enroll her in piano lessons and invited her join the high school orchestra. Mary Ellen also enjoyed being a member of the Honor’s Choir and traveled through central Europe, performing in 9 countries in 15 days. That was the experience of a lifetime! Through all of her involvement in music, Mary Ellen was, is and always will be convinced that studying and participation in music truly can be life changing. It can take you places and introduce you to so many new experiences and people. Mary Ellen has been teaching in and out of the classroom for over 25 years. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree with focus on History, Theory and Performance. She is retired now, but held a K-12 teaching certification in both Illinois and Arizona. Mary Ellen is a versatile, effective piano teacher at Allegro School of Music. She will meet the student ‘where they are’ and tailor her lessons accordingly. Mary Ellen believes the study of music should be fun while constructive learning is taking place. Her students often say, “The lesson is over already?” And the passing of the music torch goes on…
